Boxes ship pre-loaded, so most reps never need this. Use it only when you're setting up a fresh box yourself — installing our apps that aren't in the app store ("unknown apps"). About 5 minutes.
Why it's needed: UGH, the movie apps & Piper's World aren't in the Play Store, so the box has to be told it's OK to install them from a file. These steps unlock that — safely and reversibly.
🛠️ Turn on Developer Options
Settings ▸ System ▸ About → scroll to “Android TV OS build” and click it 7 times. You'll see “You are now a developer.”
Settings ▸ My Fire TV ▸ About → highlight the device name / serial and click 7 times.
🔓 Allow “unknown apps”
This lets the box install apps from a file instead of only the store. Turn it on for the app that does the installing (your browser or Downloader).
Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Security & restrictions ▸ Unknown sources → toggle ON for Downloader.
Settings ▸ My Fire TV ▸ Developer options ▸ Install unknown apps → turn ON for the browser/Downloader.
🌐 Get a browser (Google TV has none!)
Google TV ships with no web browser at all — that's normal, not a mistake. Install one from the Play Store (search on the box). Best picks for a remote:
Tip: Downloader is all you need — type the short link and it grabs & installs each app for you.
⬇️ Download & install the app
Open Downloader and go to the download link for the app. When the .apk finishes, open it and choose Install.
- First install pops “For your security…” → choose Settings, flip the unknown-apps toggle on for that app (Step 2), back out, then Install.
- After it installs you can delete the .apk to save space.
- Sideloaded apps may not show on the home row → find them under Apps ▸ See all.
✅ Repeat & finish
Install the rest of the app set the same way. When done, open UGH and enter the customer's activation login once — the box is ready to hand off.
⚠️ Heads-up: only install apps from links you trust. “Unknown sources” turns off the box's safety check, so a bad file could install too. Turn the toggle back off after loading a box if you want it locked down.
On the box, open Downloader and type this address, then tap each app to install:

3. Tap a set (1 · 2 · 3) → tap each app → it downloads & installs. Allow "install unknown apps" if asked.
We strongly urge every customer to keep a VPN turned on. It's the most important step for private, smooth streaming — always switch one on before you hand off the box, and tell the customer to leave it running.
Good news — it's already on the box. Every box ships with three VPNs — Surfshark, NordVPN & IPVanish. Customer only needs one: open it, tap Connect once, leave it on. Keeps viewing private, stops throttling, keeps it buffer-free. If one feels slow, switch to another.
